Space optics technology12/7/2023 To create an S-FSO, the communication system will usually be equipped with data fragmentation multipath transmission or shortened to DFMT. The term that is often used to talk about this topic is secure free space opticals (S-FSO). Data SecurityĪny information that is transmitted also needs data security. SCM allows limiting wavelength resources so as to make spectrum more efficient. An example of a new FSO is an FSO equipped with Subcarrier Multiplexing (SCM). Metropolitan will require free space optics subsystems technology. The performance gain that many companies want is to be able to reach further and also create circuits capable of delivering faster transmissions. These subsystems allow companies to produce FSOs with higher performance and lower costs. You already understand the mechanism of Free Space Optics and now is the time to learn about Free Space Optics Subsystems. An optical amplifier is useful for increasing optical intensity.įree Space Optics Free Space Optics Subsystems The data coming from the source will be modulated and the laser beam will be passed through the optical amplifier. The transmitter section has a special design in the form of a laser diode, optical amplifier, modulator, and beamforming optics. Despite the contention between the two companies that issue FSO hardware, it’s important that we understand how it works.Īccording to the Hyperiontechs website, FSO utilizes lasers for data transmission through the air. While the stronghold that supports FSO with a wave of 800 – 980 nm provides an argument that the wavelength is considered the best. Opponents expressed the opinion that waves as large as 1550 nm can have a negative impact on eye health. One side supports the use of FSO with a band of 1550 nm and the other side opposes the use of lasers with a wavelength of 1550 nm. The Cablefree website, explains that there are at least two arguments regarding the safety of lasers with these waves. The first type of hardware can operate in the band around 800 nm and the second hardware will be able to operate at 1550 nm. How It Works?įSO technology available today can be divided into two based on the hardware. At a glance, FSO works similarly to wireless keyboards, TV remote controls, and IRDA on cellular phones. Basically, this technology emits lasers into space to transmit information. Reporting from Gigabit Wireless, FSO has other names, such as Infrared Laser or Optical Wireless. In fact, FSO stands for Free Space Optics. Many people do not understand the term FSO so they do not know whether FSO is optical or wireless communication technology.

Worms crazy golf size12/7/2023 Only purchase and use compost and mulch managed to reduce the risk of spreading these invaders and other pathogens. Here are a few precautions you can take to help stop the spread of these voracious worms: Prevention is the first step in limiting worms spreading in your lawn. There are currently no chemical controls or methods to eliminate them from your property. The tiny cocoons can move unseen on shoes, tools and equipment. Adults and cocoons can spread in mulch, soil and plants. How to Stop the Spread of Jumping WormsĪlthough jumping worms are large in size, their tiny cocoons can easily go undetected. And when they die they leave behind tiny tough black cocoons the size of a mustard seed to overwinter in the soil. They are parthenogenetic meaning a single worm can reproduce without a mate, further increasing their rate of reproduction. Individual jumping worms only live for a year but can grow from an egg to adult in 60 days producing several generations in one season. Grab one and you just may find its tail in your hand while the rest of the worm returns to the soil. These quick-moving worms are hard to capture. They move through the soil like snakes and this along with their violent thrashing when disturbed inspired their common names. The fleshy band near the end of the worm, known as clitellum, is cloudy white to gray, encircles the worm and is not raised as it is on earthworms. They are dark brown, smooth and shiny growing to 6 inches or more in length. Jumping worms live near the soil surface. And as their populations grow you may need to change some of the plantings and maintenance practices in your landscape. All this impacts the health and productivity of our garden plants. This depletes nutrients, disturbs the soil fungi and decreases the water-holding ability of soils. Jumping worms turn rich organic soil into small crumbles that resemble coffee grounds. These worms in your lawn change the soil structure in gardens as well as our natural spaces. Photo Credit: UW-Madison Arboretum Why Should You Care about Jumping Worms? They can now be found in much of the northeast, southeast, Midwest and recently upper Midwestern United States. Jumping worms (Amynthas spp) most likely arrived in North America in the late 19th century on imported plants, and other horticulture and agriculture materials. Most earthworm species move 30 feet a year while jumping worms can infest as much as 17 acres in one season. Although a threat, the European earthworms devour organic matter and spread at a much slower rate than the jumping worms. The earthworm gardeners appreciate for the aeration they provide are another non- native species wreaking havoc in our woodlands. Their feeding changes the soil structure and chemistry so the soil is more subject to erosion, inhibits tree seedling establishment, damages the relationship between soil fungi and trees and reduces the soils ability to absorb water. These invasive worms live near the soil surface devouring leaf litter and the organic matter that plants depend upon. Whether you call them jumping worms, crazy worms, Alabama jumpers or snake worms, they are bad news for our gardens and natural spaces. Binaural audio bothers me12/7/2023 Sounds come from all directions of the natural world: from animals and the elements.īut not all frequencies are audible to humans. Humans hear sound waves made up of different frequency levels throughout the day. This all has an effect on the brain and changes the brain state, causing it to produce different brainwaves. Some people listen to dance music with rumbling bass-lines for hours, and others to music with soaring guitars. Many of us sit and listen to music with headphones on while we work for long period of time, exposing ourselves to frequencies of all different kinds. Why It Isn't DangerousĪs humans, we are exposed to sound frequencies all the time. So if we listen to a theta binaural beats track, we are encouraging the brain to produce brainwaves at this frequency, with the purpose of becoming relaxed. For example: when deeply relaxed, you are most likely producing an abundance of theta brainwaves. However, it is usually the case that one state is more dominant than the others at a particular time. If you were to take a snapshot of your brainwave patterns at any time you would see a cross section of different brainwaves. It's important to note that you don't produce one type of brainwave at a time.

Secondly, this understanding enabled them to sequence their maneuver and mass combat power through phasing and transition. First, they understood the terrain and its impact on the tempo of forces around the Masurian Lakes. They employed three primary elements of operational art that gave them an edge over their Russian adversary. They visualized tactical actions to support that strategy and acted on them in a Prussian style of Auftragstaktik. The two leaders employed the Army’s framework of operational art by recognizing how their operations in East Prussia nested with Germany’s Grand Strategy. The victory at Tannenberg was due in large part to the ability of General Paul von Hindenburg, and his Chief of Staff General Erich Ludendorff. It led to the destruction of an entire Russian Army and provided hope to a nation that was soon to be bogged down in a stalemated war. The battle of Tannenberg was a defining victory for Germany in the first months of World War I.

Andy raskin medium12/6/2023 “Because there are no characters or context,” someone will usually say. There’s a lightsaber that glows green and can cut down enemies. After each sentence, the teacher pauses to ask, “Is it a story yet?” Students get to vote, and explain why it is or isn’t.įor adult audiences, I use a more familiar narrative. In the elementary school version of “Is it a Story Yet?”, the teacher reads the class a tale about a boy who forgets his homework. My goal is to get attendees to re-frame their pitches around the difference they’ll make in people’s lives. I want us to switch to a new database for the XYZ application. Almost always, the pitches start and end with a product, a feature, or a service, or make reference to upending a category: How to Play “Is it a Story Yet?”īefore starting the game, I go around the room and ask a few people to give their elevator pitches. I’ve found no quicker way to get CEOs, founders, engineers, marketers, salespeople and product managers excited about applying storytelling craft to their pitches. Near the back, I found a game called “Is it a Story Yet?” - designed for second-graders - that is now part of every workshop and strategic messaging project I lead. Then, on Amazon, I stumbled across a guide for elementary-school teachers called Super Simple Storytelling (by Kendall Haven). I searched every book I could find on the topics of pitching and business storytelling, to no avail. But I wanted an exercise I could do with a live audience that would get the point across quickly. There are plenty of articles on the subject (Stewart Butterfield's “ We Don’t Sell Saddles Here” is excellent, and many people tell me they’ve benefited from my narrative breakdown of Elon Musk’s Tesla Powerwall pitch, “ Want a Better Pitch? Watch This”). So I wondered: Is there a fast, fun way to give people a sense of narrative structure and how much better their pitches can get by applying it? But not everyone comes in knowing exactly what that means. In these workshops-as in my strategic messaging and positioning engagements-everyone comes in wanting to tell a more compelling story. In the last four weeks, I’ve led strategic storytelling workshops for Uber's engineering team (on how to use narrative structure to more effectively pitch ideas to internal colleagues), for the founders of an Andreessen Horowtiz/First Round-backed startup, and for international entrepreneurship students visiting Stanford.
